Friend-of-the-site and all around great person Lisa Hermes has done more than her fair share to fight cancer (last year she raised over $1,000 for cancer research in the NYC Half-Marathon) and this year she’s back at it again. In addition to running in the NYC Marathon in November, Lisa will be drinking for a cure as well, and we’d all like it if you’d join her.

On September 16th, Lisa will be at Dempsey’s pub (61 2nd Ave- Google Map), where there will be all sorts of insane drink specials, including buy one-get-one deals on house cocktails, Harp, Yuengling, Coors Lite, and Dempsey’s Irish Ale, $12 pitchers, and $4 shots.

Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, so for once, we feel absolutely no shame in telling you to drink up; it’s for a good cause.

I beg forgiveness for taking so long to write about this place, but believe me, it’s worth it.

The Frying Pan (Pier 66, 26th Street and West Side Highway- Google Map) is an awesome collection of boats and a pier that come together to form an absolutely amazing bar experience. Read the rest of this entry »

Andrew Cuomo will probably be our next governor. Most New Yorkers like him, they like the job he’s done and all that good stuff. But even the most popular guys have haters, as this very subtle reference on user-generated Wikipedia proves. I was just looking for Cuomo’s biography when I stumbled across and almost missed this – see if you can pick it out.

Andrew Mark Cuomo (pronounced /ˈkwoʊmoʊ/; born December 6, 1957) is the New York State Attorney General. He was elected on November 7, 2006. Previously Cuomo was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton between 1997 and 2001. Cuomo announced his intention to run for Governor of New York on May 22, 2010.[1]

Background and early career

Cumhole was born in Queens, New York, the elder son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo and the older brother of ABC News journalist Chris Cuomo.

Last night a friend and I were headed out of the 116th Street station of the B/C, and a giant, cat-sized rat carrying a 10 inch long piece of bloody bone scurried in front of us. Upon our shocked exclamations, it dropped the huge, unidentifiable bone, and disappeared around the other side of the manned station agent booth. Everyone getting off the train was freaked out, and no one could figure out what type of bone it was.

A half an hour later, when we came to get back on the train, the bone was still there. We swiped in, attempting to get as far away from it as possible, in case the gigantic rat came back for it. But as we tried to head down the platform, we were deterred by two more rats running back and forth.   We ended up staying by the turnstiles so we could keep an eye on all angles.   A couple of minutes later, we saw the cat-sized rat come back for the bone.

The train came minutes later, but not before we saw three more rats on the tracks, and discussed the infestation with a few station regulars. They all asserted that the 116th Station is the worst, and has more rats than any other station, with the possible exception of the 135th street station on the same line.   As I’ve seen at least two rats every time I’ve been there (and often a couple at the top of the stairs to boot), I’m inclined to agree.

But we have to ask our readers: What subway station do you think is the rattiest? And moreover, what IS that 10 inch long bloody piece of bone pictured above?

You know what’s good on a hot summer night? Free Drinks. Delancey lounge (168 Delancey Street- Google Map) is offering free margaritas from 10 pm – 11 pm tonight.

2010 has turned out to be the summer of the bed bug, Just juding by the number of people that get to our site by typing “Does store X have bed bugs?” we can tell that everyone is worried about it, too.

Well, this probably won’t make you feel any better.

Bed Bug Registry is a public database that collects bed bug reports around the country. And while the rest of the country has bed bug problems of their own, we positively have an epidemic.

In other news, you’d think that bed bug fears would keep people away from old clothing and furniture, but think again, as vintage clothing and furniture stores are still going strong.
