About

Founded in January 2010, The Funky Apple is a weblog that obsessively covers New York City. Everything that is awesome, terrible, discounted, expensive, musical or entertaining is fair game.

If you’ve got any tips, be sure to let us know; email us at contactus@thefunkyapple.com. If you’re interested in writing, email our Editor-in-Chief, Nigel Chiwaya at nigel@thefunkyapple.com

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: So what are you; some kind of New York Times wannabe?

A: Nopes. We’re a group of twenty-somethings that live in New York City and have done so without dying, going bankrupt (yet) or joining any gangs (singing or otherwise). We’re not a newspaper, so we don’t try to follow any kind of journalism code (except for making sure everything we write is accurate, of course.) If something blows, we’ll tell you.

Q: How do you  determine what’s worthy of posting?

A: You know when your friend tells you something and you’re like “that’s really cool?” Well, when we have one of those moments, we post it on the site.

Q: I’m a business owner, and I’d like to get my business or product reviewed on the Funky Apple. What do I do?

A: Well there’s three ways; you can shoot an email to one of the emails listed above, you can hit us up via our contact page, or you can just say “screw it” and post it yourself via our submit a post page.

Q: I just escaped the year 1999. What’s a blog?

A blog is a constantly updated website. Stories are posted in reverse chronological order, so the newest posts show up higher. Blogs aren’t written in journalistic style, they’re written in a more witty/sarcastic tone.
