Free Jeans from Levi’s and a Janelle Monae Concert!

Posted by Sarah Babka On August - 26 - 2010

Tomorrow, Levi’s is promoting their new Curve ID jeans – with custom cuts for different body types – with their “Wear What Fits” event in Bryant Park (6th Avenue at West 41st St).  Starting at 10am, Levi’s will be exchanging your old pair of jeans (or other article of clothing) for a new pair of Curve ID jeans.  They will be donating all the exchanged clothing to Goodwill, so bring something in good, wearable quality.

If free, well-fitting jeans are not enough, there will also be a performance by the fashion-forward Janelle Monae, and the Today Show’s celebrity stylist Bobbie Thomas will be there dishing out tips.

The event starts at 10am, but these type of events often fill up quickly, and the free jeans are first come, first serve, so we recommend you get there early.  If you are just interested in the performance, Janelle Monae should be going on around 12:30 pm.

Free Metric Concert Tonight in Prospect Park!

Posted by Sarah Babka On August - 5 - 2010

Tonight, one of TFA’s favorite indie pop-rock bands Metric is playing a free show at the Prospect Park Concert Grove.  The show starts at 8:00 pm, and will also feature Holly Miranda and Joan as Police Woman.  No tickets are required, so the seating is first come, first served.  We suggest getting there early to get good seats – this band is worth braving the heat for!

The Roots to perform at SoHo Apple Store Tonight

Posted by Nigel Chiwaya On July - 13 - 2010

Before they were Jimmy Fallon’s house band, the Roots were (and still are) a world famous hip-hop group. So it makes sense that when they’re not working on Late Night, they’re actually, y’know, playing their own music.

And play their music they will. Tonight the Roots will be at the SoHo Apple Store (103 Prince Street: Google Map) from 8pm-9pm playing selections from their latest album “How I Got Over.” Tickets are free, but you’ve gotta figure out how to get them. (Hint, call the Apple Store:(212) 226-3126)

As part of the Today Show Summer Concert Series, tomorrow New Yorkers (and anyone lucky enought to be visiting New York) can catch a free show from the talented and always hot Maxwell.  After an eight year hiatus, this Grammy-nominated soul singer burst back onto the scene last year, and has been headlining sold out tours this year.  So it is highly recommended that you get there at 6:00 am to get a seat, as it is on a first come, first serve basis.

The show is officially from 7:00-9:00 am at Rockefeller Center.  Enjoy!

“Somebody Gonna Get Pregnant” Art Opening Tonight!

Posted by Sarah Babka On June - 3 - 2010

One of my favorite wild NYC acts, Ninjasonik, dropped the single “Somebody Gonna Get Pregnant” and the accompanying hot mess hilarity video last year, and sent out the 12 inch vinyl single with a blank white sleeve to 60+ artists.

Tonight the results will be on display in DUMBO, at the opening of the first Ninjasonik Vinyl Sleeve Art Show.  The opening reception is from 5-10pm tonight at Front Street Art Galleries, located at 111 Front Street, BK.
