10 Day Traffic Jam makes you happy to have the MTA

Posted by Nigel Chiwaya On August - 24 - 2010

Sure, we all hate the MTA in our own little ways. They raise fares, cut service, and generally make life not so much fun.

However, the next time you consider cutting open a booth agent with a metrocard, consider the alternative. Consider driving to work every day. Consider driving to work on the highway. Now consider traffic. Now stretch that traffic out for 10 days and you’ll begin to imagine what people inĀ BeijingĀ are feeling right now.

Yup, due to massive construction on the region’s National Expressway 110, motorists are in the middle of a massive traffic jam. One that is backed up for 62 miles and has lasted 1o days.

Now, you’re probably saying to yourself: “that’s stupid, just leave.” But before you say that, ask yourself: how? It’s a traffic jam. Car in front of you, car behind you, car on the left, car on the right. You are boxed in, and there’s no getting out.

The stranded drivers are killing time by playing cards, and locals are making money by selling instant noodles to motorists, albeit at prices four-times as high.

No one expects things to get better until construction wraps up on September 13th.

Suddenly you want to kiss Jay Walder, huh?

Snooki’s probably not going to party on the Jesus Shore

Posted by Nigel Chiwaya On August - 4 - 2010

Had enough fist-pumping? Not in the mood to GTL? Well then, you might consider heading down to the Jersey Shore for a different reason.

On Monday, two religous groups, Abundant Grace Church and Move the Earth, put on a concert in Seaside Heights aptly titled Jesus Shore. No, I swear I didn’t make that up. They’ve even got a website.

While a few dozen people did show up, we (and Snooki) sadly missed the show. However, Move the Earth promises to return to the Shore next year, and with a motto like “For the Sexy, the Ugly, the Pagan and the Pure,” we’re not sure how anyone could want to miss out. [Gothamist]

Holy Hell, it’s raining oil in Louisiana

Posted by Nigel Chiwaya On June - 24 - 2010

Yes, we’re all upset that our trains are getting axed this week and wah wah wah, but holy shit, at least it’s not raining oil up here like it is down in Louisiana. Don’t believe me? Watch the youtube video after the break. Read the rest of this entry »
