We always look to the Intrepid to mark the start of the summer outdoor movie season, so we’re particularly pleased to see that the Sea, Air and Space Museum is back for another year with their Summer Movies on the Intrepid series.
(Quick explainer for those that don’t know: the Intrepid is a big aircraft carrier that was turned into a museum on 42nd street and the West Side Highway. It’s where the space shuttle Enterprise will end up in July. And every year they have a movie series where you can sit out on the flight deck and watch a film under the stars surrounded by airplanes. It’s pretty awesome.)
This year’s movie series kicks off on Friday, May 25 with, as usual, Top Gun. Here’s full schedule:
May 25: Top Gun
July 13: Spiderman (the 2002 Tobey Maguire version)
July 20: Star Trek (the 2009 JJ Abrams version)
July 27: The Muppets (the 2011 Jason Segel/Amy Adams version. God there are a lot of remakes.)
August 3: Jurassic Park
August 17: The Goonies
Admission, as always, is free. Check out the Intrepid’s website for more info.
