Call this a wonderful surprise. Gothamist reports that effective April 1st sales tax will be suspended for clothing and shoes under 110 bucks. And it’ll be all sales taxes: city, state and that weird metropolitan commuter transportation district tax that gives money to the MTA.
What makes this a surprise is that sales tax on clothing and shoes was restored in 2010 in part because New York’s economy was in bad shape. (The other part was that the state budget was super late that year and the tax was a compromise to get the damn thing passed.) Anyway, starting April 1st you’ll be able to shop like it’s 2009 all over again.
