Man, our fine-happy city is kicking it up a notch. The Daily News today exposed the city’s latest attempt to rain on our parade; they’re enforcing the sanitation and street obstruction rule that prevents people from putting old furniture out on the curb for longer than the night before pickup. Nevermind that this is a time-honored way of getting free furniture (and bed bugs), the city is now slapping those careless freecyclers with fines of 100 bucks. And don’t think that the bargain shoppers are free from the rule either, it’s also illegal to pick up items that have been left at the curb for sanitation. Guess you’ll just have to go to IKEA after all.
