18th Century Boat remains discovered under World Trade Center

by Nigel Chiwaya on July 15, 2010

So this is kinda creepy.

The City Room repoorts that as construction crews were busy digging away what will eventually be the new World Trade Center’s security garage, they hit some wodden planks. Being sharp lads and lasses, they realized they weren’t dealing with a super old floor, so they called in some archeologists, and whaddya know; it turns out that they were standing on the remains of an 18th century ship.

Officials aren’t sure what the boat was used for, but it’s currently the talk of the archaeological community. No word or whether or not anyone sang “I’m on a boat” to commemorate the occasion. [City Room]
